A few weeks ago I attend a Wet Plate Collodion workshop in Johnson City at the
A. Smith photo gallery and stayed in Fredericksburg at an Air B&B…needless to say,

The Story of Cottage Kat…

Cottage Kat . . .
Driving into Dallas yesterday across the dried up lake , I was thinking
about how I ended up leaving my hometown, and security of a big city
to a rather sparse existence in a town of around 3300. It must have
been ingrained into my head after many Sunday afternoon drives to
“the country” with my dad at the somewhat reluctant helm and us
kids all piled into the car with Mommy. My poor mom, always wanted
to retreat back to a simpler life, similar to her growing up in a small,
Alabama town. Of course, Daddy would have nothing to do with that!
She even drug us kids out to Lake Tawakoni one summer to check out a house
that was rentable for the summer. No way! We didn’t want to leave
our friends for the summer so she finally gave up that dream. Even the
past few years, I have tried to move my family to a smaller town in the
Hill Country but it never seemed to work out. I guess getting a divorce,
was the only way this dream of mine would become a reality. Reading
way too many House and Garden, Victoria and House Beautiful
magazines since I was grown up and developing my style of home interiors
did I start to always wish for a cottage type home with fabulous gardens!
After finally deciding to take the plunge at this stage of my life, and go ahead
and seek divorce, selling our home and then the reality of finding another,
affordable yet suitable home did the country become a viable option.
Checking MLS one day after our home went under contract I found this little
cottage! I called and found out that it had just gone under contract~
But I decided the next day to go take a look at it anyway, and needless to say,
felt like it was ‘my home’ as well as the perfect cottage and dream I had
wanted for years. Being a Realtor, I called the listing agent back and told her
a bit of my story and asked her to let me know if for some reason the buyers
backed out, to please let me know. Well, wouldn’t you know, faith is a great
thing to have! I received the ‘call’ a week later and after a bunch of tears and happy
discussion, went home and wrote a contract. All I could say was “God is so
Good!” I knew this was my house and He provided! I has now been 6 weeks,
and I am getting adjusted to life in a small town, great neighbors and also everyone
in town knowing exactly which house you live in or knowing someone you have
met along the way. I still drive to town about 4-5 days a week to do my
scheduled baby sitting days or to meet friends or show houses. I have many
photo clubs and friends to meet with weekly so life is similar yet different.
Hopefully, I can start to document this little town and see what those whom
have lived here for years see as familiar, yet through my eyes are unique and
worthy of a photo!

I had a business trip on Saturday to Canton, and having gone
there for about 5 years every first Monday to set up my booth
when I had my children’s clothing company, I was anxious to
see what was new in town and all around the fair grounds.
Of course, I found the nicest shop in town, which is there
transplanted from Big D, to a quieter way of life, right on
the square! I also ran into dear old friends, whose booth is
in the Pavillions, Sunday House, Don and Lee! Lunch at the corner
bakery with their squash soup which was as good as any fine restaurant
in Dallas! What a fun day, now if it had only been 1st Monday…?

or, even if you are not sure if you are Scottish…
you can! Yes, Mr. Seth allowed me to snap his dapper
photo yesterday at the Antique and Vintage Jewelery show
in Grapevine. Yes, Mr Sheet metal worker, Seth. I think
he looks smashing in his kilt and what better place to sport
such an outfit than with a bunch of vintage, jewels, clothes,
cowboy boots and what ever!

The Dallas PPA (professional photographers of america)
had it’s annual Little Red Schoolhouse in Salado this
year rather than Waco. I have always loved Salado and
welcomed the opportunity to stay in a B & B there, one
which i have photographed many times from the road…
so there you have some of Baines House, once owned by the
grandparents of Lyndon Baines Johnson!~
still have more photos but here is a start!
